Sajeev aims high at Archery World Cup

Sri Lanka’s sole representative, Sajeev Silva, has set his sights on climbing the world rankings while also focusing on adapting to the conditions and atmosphere that will prevail at the Paris Olympics in the coming year. Silva is gearing up for the Paris 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup, scheduled to run from today to August 20 in France.

This prestigious event marks the fourth stage of the annual Archery World Cup, drawing participation from an impressive 58 countries. Approximately 380 skilled archers will converge during this six-day competition, showcasing their prowess in all four categories: Recurve Men, Recurve Women, Compound Men, and Compound Women.

Sajeev de Silva, a contender in the Recurve Men’s category, will be competing alongside 130 other skilled participants. “This tournament offers invaluable experience, providing a significant boost to my rankings as I prepare for the Asian Games in the upcoming months. I’m optimistic about achieving a notable improvement in my global rankings,” remarked Sajeev Silva, displaying his determination.

Silva also emphasized the pivotal role of this event as a strategic stepping stone in his journey towards the Olympics.

“This competition serves as a crucial platform to acclimatize to the Olympic environment, given that the finals will be held at the Olympic venue itself. This opportunity allows me to align with the Olympic atmosphere and better understand the prevailing conditions,” stated Sajeev de Silva, highlighting the importance of this preparatory phase.
