Sajith meets Mahanayaka Theras

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa during his visit to Kandy on Saturday received blessings from Malwatta Chapter Mahanayaka Most Ven. Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddartha Sumangala Thera and Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayaka Thera Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera.

During his brief visit, the Opposition Leader explained the two Mhanayaka Theras about the country’s economic situation and conducting the forthcoming Local Government (LG) Election.

The Opposition Leader told the Most Ven. Prelates that nobody could postpone the LG Election under any circumstances since conducting elections at the correct time must be followed by the Government for the sake of the people.

Opposition Leader Premadasa said that at the time when the Judiciary ordered the Finance Minister and the Secretary to the Finance Minister to take steps to hold the election, these two important Government officials must recognise the verdict, if not it could be considered as a contempt of court.

He also said that the people need to change the system since the country’s economic situation is deteriorating due to unbearable price hike of essential commodity items.

He added that even in future the Government should re-consider the price reduction of most important items rather than appointing new ministers as it will become a massive burden to 220 million people.
