Sajith queries suspension of regional SLBC stations from May 31
Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said in Parliament yesterday (25) that all regional radio stations of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) are being shut down due to inefficient and short-sighted financial administration.
He said that a large number of people, including journalists, are working in those stations and therefore he is requesting the government to stop their closure.
He said that regional radio stations have done a great service for the country for decades.
The Opposition Leader further said: “All regional radio channels and operations under Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation are to be suspended from May 31 as a solution to the financial crisis. Rajarata, Ruhunu, Kandurata, Yal, Wayamba, Dambana radio stations are to be suspended. Who is responsible for this? What is the reason for this? These radios have provided excellent service for many decades.
They are closed due to inefficiency. I request you to implement a programme to continue these valuable media channels, at least by joining hands with the private sector and utilising their financial strength.”
