Sajith queries Teacher Advisory Service appointment delay
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the problem of teacher advisory service has not been resolved even after eight months after promises from education authorities.
The Opposition Leader said this on Friday (11) when the sectoral monitoring committee on education focusing on the problems of the teacher advisory service met in Parliament.
He said that he had previously revealed in Parliament that there are 1,982 vacancies for teacher advisors and the Education Minister had promised to fill those vacancies a few months ago. However, the problem has not yet been implemented, he said.
The Opposition Leader said that there is a salary disparity that occurs when teachers are appointed to the position of teacher advisors. Because of that problem, many teachers do not like to enter the teacher advisor’s service. Premadasa queried the reasons for these issues not addressed since January, the time he raised them.
The Leader of the Opposition further said that he also requested that a specific period be given to solve these problems.
The Opposition Leader said that if teacher advisors are at a higher level than teachers, their salaries and increments should be increased and there should not be any disparity.
