Sampanthan passes away

Veteran Tamil politician and Parliamentarian R. Sampanthan passed away at a private hospital in Colombo yesterday.

He was 91 years at the time of his demise. A politician and lawyer Sampanthan led the Tamil National Alliance since 2001 until recently. He has also been a Member of Parliament since 2001, and previously served as a Member of Parliament from 1977 to 1983 and from 1997 to 2000. He was the Leader of the Opposition from September 2015 to December 2018.
