Seventh year all round cricketer, Right hand opening bat and Right arm off spinner, Safe fielder, School Captain of the under 13, 15, 17 and first eleven teams, Prima Cup player, First ever player from his school to score a century in the under 13 debut inter school match and first ever player from his school to notch up a double century for first eleven cricket, Division Three (Daily News Trophy) Cricketer and Member of the Raja Rata Sports Club Sara Trophy Squad 2022 and Champion athlete Pethangodage Sangeeth Shehara has brought honour and immense glory to his alma mater Mahinda Rajapaksha Vidyalaya with his deeds in the field of cricket.

Sangeeth who hails from Boralesgamuwa was born on 26 th June 2002 and admitted to Sri Chandrarathne Manavasinghe Vidyalaya in 2008 . In 2011 he took part in the school inter house sports meet and swept the board in 50, 75 and 100 metres and became the champion and in the following year too he represented the same and was the school champion and took part in the Divisional Meet and in 2010 too he was the school champion.

Though he excelled in athletics his forte was cricket and noticing this his parents Ruwan Priyadarshana and K.D.Sanjeevani admitted their son to Fingara Cricket Club Academy Raththanapitiya and he came under Mr. Udaya and when he came up to grade five he was drafted to Burgher Recreation Club Academy and came under Sanjeeva de Silva.

Then in 2013 he passed the grade five scholarship exam and was admitted to Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya Homagama and he was selected to the under 13 team and in his debut match he scored 126 runs versus Christ King College Pannipitiya and became the first ever player from his school to score a century in his debut game and he passed the 300 run mark with two fifties. In his second year he scored 350 runs with a century and two fifties and in his last year captaining the team passed the 350 run mark with a century and three fifties.

His first year in the under 15 was in 2014 and he collected 270 runs and captaining in the next year scored 280 runs with two centuries and in the Maliyadeva College match he scored a century and claimed 6 for 30 with a hat trick and got three fifties and got 280 runs and selected for the Prima Cup and represented Colombo South Blue Team.

Then in 2016 he played for the under 17 team and scored 305 runs with four fifties and in the following year captaining the team got 355 runs with a century and four fifties.

His first year in the first eleven was in 2013 and he played in three matches and in the following year he was in the Cricket Pool and in 2015 played for the team and in 2016 he passed the 250 mark with three fifties and in 2016/17 season he scored 250 runs with three fifties and played in the first Big Match Versus Defence College Colombo and scored an unbeaten 75 runs and won the Best Batsman’s Award and in the following year playing in ten matches he scored 864 runs with 203 runs against Lyceum College Nugegoda and it was the first ever double hundred scored by a player in a first eleven match from his school and got 8 half centuries and in the 2019/20 Big Match too he played and in that season he scored 405 runs with a century and four fifties and in his final year captaining the team played only five friendly matches due to Corona. He became the first ever player from his school to score centuries in under 13, 15, 17 and 19 teams. His Coach was Sanjaya Weerasinghe and MIC is Mr.Gratian and he came under two Principals Chandana Silva and M.R.D.K. Gunarathne respectively. He toured Mumbai, India with the BRC Academy Under 13 Team and the Coach was Sanjeeva Silva.

He played for the Division Three (Daily News Trophy) Tournament for S.K. Cricket Club, Kotte and Nugegoda S.W. and WC and presently he is in the Sara Trophy Squad of Raja Rata Sports Club and his coach is Mr.Manju.
