Sanudula clinches silver medal in the FIDE Online Queen’s Chess Festival

Dahamdi Sanudula was admitted to Grade 1 of Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya Narahenpita in 2013. She studied from Grade 1 to Grade 7 in the same school and joined Musaeus College Colombo in 2019.

She played Chess with her father at home many times. She started Chess under her father K.M. Anjula Milan in 2012. Sanudula’s first Chess coach was her father K.M. Anjula Milan from 2013 to 2016. She performed under IM Romesh Weerawardhane from 2016 and 2018. From 2018 she is under current coach CM Akila Kavinda.

She emerged champion of under 6 girls category in the all island Youth girls Chess Championship in 2013 in the first tournament of her Chess career. She represented Sri Lanka team winning Gold medal in under 6 category in the Asian Youth Chess championship. She represented the under 6 girl’s Blitz event in Asian School Chess tournament in 2013. She was the runner up of under 8 girls category in the all island Youth Women’s Chess Championship in 2014. She was placed fourth in the Classical event in Asian Schools Chess tournament in Taiwan.

She emerged champion of under 8 girls category in the all island Youth women’s Chess Championship in 2015. She won the Bronze medal in under 8 girls category in the Commonwealth Chess Championship in India. Shetook part in the World Youth Chess tournament in Greece in the same year.

She was World ranked 15th in the under 8 girl’s category. She was fourth placed in Blitz and Rapid categories and fifth placed in Classical events in Asian Schools Chess tournament in Singapore 2015.

She won 6th place in the under 10 girls category in the all island Youth women’s Chess Championship in 2016. She was runner up in the National Blitz Championship and champion in Rapid category. She was runner up of the under 10 girls category in the all island Youth women’s Chess Championship in 2017.

She represented Asian Youth Chess tournament in Uzbekistan. She won a Bronze medal in the Blitz event and only this bronze medal was won by our country in that tournament. She won 10th place in the classical and Rapid event. She won three Silver medals in Classical, Blitz and Rapid in the West Asia Chess Championship at Sri Lanka in 2017. She bagged the WCM (Women Candidate Master) title in 2017.

She was Champion in the National Rapid, runner up in Blitz category and fourth placed in Classical event in the All Island School Chess tournament. She represented Sri Lanka team winning the Country Gold medal of Classical and Rapid events in Asian school chess championship 2018. She won a Bronze medal in Asian school Rapid event in the same tournament in Sri Lanka.

She was third placed in the under 12 girls category in the all island Youth women’s Chess Championship in 2019. She emerged National Blitz Champion. She was runner up in the National Rapid Chess championship in 2019. She was selected for Sri Lanka women’s national A chess squad in 2019.

Her current World Fide Rating is 1717 and she was the No. 1 ranked player in Sri Lanka under 14 Girls. She has toured India, Uzbekistan, Greece, Taiwan and Singapore for many international series. (YK)
