Twenty year old, Sapumal Gihantha Fernando is a Grade Thirteen student of Dharmaraja College, Kandy and before joining the School he started his School career at Lexicon International School. Kandy.
He was an outstanding Cricketer and Soccer player at Lexicon and he was good in studies too which enabled him to get admitted to Dharmaraja College for higher studies as well as to improve his sports abilities. Since he was admitted to the Dharmaraja College he was selected to the Cricket and Soccer pool of Dharmaraja and he improved his goal-keeping in Soccer tremendously and was selected to the Kandy District Soccer team in the year 2018/19 and in 2020 to the Up-Country Lions Soccer team, as a Goal-Keeper.
Sapumal took another step forward in Soccer, when he was named by the Head coach of Kandy, K.M.T.Konara for the Sri Lanka National Pool along with E.M.S.Ekanayake and A,M,T,K, Bandara, both from the Kandy District Soccer team. As a Cricketer he represented his former School in all age groups i.e. Under `13,15,17 and under 19 as a Right hand batsman and a left arm medium pace bowler and he represented the Kandy Cricket and Athletic Academy in Club matches for three years since 2016. His highest score was 102 against Poramadulla National School, while his best bowling performance was Eight wickets for Thirty four runs against Kandy Model School and his Cricket Coaches were the writer, Indika Fernando and Sampson Burke.
His intention is to improve his talent in both Soccer and Cricket and represent the Country in both
sports disciplines and if he fulfils this he will be like Danushka Gamage, an Old Kingswodian, who represented Sri Lanka in both Soccer and Cricket in the Nineties.
