Sarana gets indictment over DLB bribery case

The Colombo High Court yesterday served an indictment to former Development Lotteries Board Chairman Sarana Gunawardena over a case filed against him alleging causing a loss of over Rs.4 million to the government while he was the Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe.

Following serving indictment, the accused was ordered cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two sureties of Rs.1,000,000 by the Colombo High Court and a travel ban was also imposed against him.

The case was filed against former DLB Chairman Sarana Gunawardena by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) under six counts for committing an offense of corruption through the lease advance of Rs.4,041,000 for three vehicles which were used by the DLB while he was the Lotteries Board Chairman between August 2006 and July 2007.

The case will be taken up again on April 28.
