Sasvi a promising athlete of Mahamaya

Sasvi Seneviratne is a 15 year old, grade 10 student of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy came out with flying colours to win the under 15, 400 metres hurdles event clocking 1 minute 4.05 seconds at the John Tarbet athletic meet held in Colombo this year.

In addition she came close second in the 400 metres flat race clocking 58.46 seconds. Her coach is Janz Dissanayake. Apart from that she came first in the under 15, 300 metres hurdles event at the national athletic championship clocking 46.15 seconds. She came second in the under 15, 400 metres flat race timing 58.85 seconds.

She started athletics when she was studying in the grade three class. She started group events then from grade 6 onwards she won 100 and 200 metres representing Maya house in school house meets. After that she won the 400 metres race at the provincial athletic meet. During the Covid period (2020 & 2021), she couldn’t participate in any track and field meet.

Her ambition is to win a medal at the Asian games. She wants to be a teacher by profession in the future.
