Sawmya Wijesiri fine sportsman of Dharmaraja

Nineteen year old, Sawmya Nirod Wijesiri, of Dharmaraja College, Kandy is a Grade thirteen Student in the Commerce Stream who started rugby from Grade Five onwards under the coaching of Nimal Wijesiri of the School, former Sri Lanka and Army full back.

At present his Rugby Coach is Lasintha de Costa, former Isipathana CR and FC and Sri Lanka centre Sawmya took part in Athletics and Swimming too in the school and he represented all age groups in rugby. Under 12, 13,14,16, 18 and Under 20.

His rugby team became the Under 12 Group Champions at the Milo Rugby Tournament and Under 13 Group Champions at the Schools Milo Rugby Tournament, Plate Runner-up at the Under 14 Schools Milo tournament and he played as Full Back, Under 16 Cup Runner-up at the same Tournament , Under 18 Sevens Shield Runner-up at the Singer Rugby Tournament,In 2019 Under 20 Group Champions at the same tournament and Sevens Bowl Runner-up at the Under 20 Singer Rugby tournament.

He represented the School First XV Rugby Team for Five years in the Under 20 age group and received College colours at the Colours Nite of Dharmaraja College.

Sawmya has been playing for the Nawalanka Football club in the year 2013 up to date and in 2019 Captained the Nawalanka Football team and played for the Provincial Football team.

He played for the School Football team too and as an athlete he won the 100, 400 and 800 Metre races at the Provincial Athletic Meets in the year 2017.

Sawmya was appointed as the President of the School Sports Council as well as a Senior Prefect of Dharmaraja College. He is the present Captain of the College 1st XV Rugby team and he is grateful to both his rugby coaches and the Prefect of.

Games of the School for his improvement in sports and his intention is to improve his studies as well as Sports to reach the highest level.
