Sayuni a fine wicket keeper

Sixteen year old Sayuni Premaratne a Grade Eleven student of Mahamaya Girls School, Kandy is one of the Best School Girls’ Wicket Keepers’ in the Central Province and a promising Athlete. She showed her class as an outstanding left hand batswoman when she scored an unbeaten knock of Fifty Seven Runs in the inaugural Indra Withanachchi Trophy Cricket match held in the year 2018 representing Mahamaya Blues Cricket team against Mahamaya Golds team to register a Six wicket win. In the following year she received the Best Fielders’ award at the same tournament and the Best Players’ award for scoring Forty runs at the Cricket match. As a fresher she had the opportunity to play for the School Girls Cricket tournament and at this match she scored Twenty Five runs against Maliyadewa Girls School, Kurunegala and Twenty two runs against the same school at another match and her team was selected as the Best Eight Cricket teams in the Island and in the year 2018 she was awarded School colours for Cricket. Sayuni started wicket Keeping in 2018 at the Girls Cricket tournament and her talent was recognized by the Kandy District Cricket Coach and she was selected to the District Cricket team. In the year 2019 Mahamaya’ participated at the Central Province Cricket tournament and Sayuni did creditably well as a batswoman when she scored Forty runs against Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy and her team became runners-up. In Athletics Sayuni has secured second place at the 75 metre race and Long Jump at the School Sports Meet in her age group in 2017 & 2018 and she continued Athletics for sometime at the District and Provincial Meets.
