Parliamentarian S. B. Dissanayake yesterday said that university lecturers representing Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) are refraining from evaluating Advanced Level answer scripts.
He was addressing a media conference at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party headquarters yesterday (21).
He accused that the university lecturers, who support the JVP and FSP, of taking students hostage by not evaluating answer scripts of the Advanced Level students.
Parliamentarian Dissanayake added that the Opposition and some media organisations and Non-Governmental Organizations are still making a huge cry about the Anti-Terrorism Act.“As far as I can see, this Anti-Terrorism Bill should be introduced to protect the ordinary people of this country, the democracy of this country, the lives of the people and the resources of this country from terrorism. Therefore, it is vital to support the Anti-Terrorism Bill.
Dissanayake said that had a discussion with five former Chancellors, Lecturers and Professors about this issue. All these persons said that they are ready to evaluate answer scripts of the children promptly. Therefore, the Education Ministry and the University Grants Commission should immediately come out and request these lecturers to evaluate the answer scripts.
He said the majority of University Professors and Vice-Chancellors are of the opinion that they should evaluate the answer papers of the A/L students in order to do justice to them.
“Therefore, the Education Ministry and the University Grants Commission should act immediately in this regard to prevent further delay in the answer script evaluation,” he said.While speaking on the ideas of forming a National Government, he said that now it is the opportune time to assist the Government build a strong country.
He said that the country is gradually progressing on the development path.
