SC commences hearing of petitions challenging Yugadanavi deal

The Supreme Court has commenced the hearing of Fundamental Rights (FR) petitions filed against the Yugadhanavi Power Plant deal.

 

The FR petitions were put forward by Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Ven.Elle Gunawansa Thera, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sunil Handunnetti and Wasantha Samarasinghe of the JVP and a group including Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera, Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara and Dr. Wasantha Bandara.

 

The petitions are being considered before a five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

 

The bench comprises Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya and Supreme Court Judges Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Vijith Malalgoda and L.T.B. Dehideniya
