SC directs CID to allow lawyers to meet gangster

The Supreme Court yesterday (9) directed the IGP and the CID Director to provide an opportunity for Janith Madushanka alias Podi Lasi, a leader of an underworld gang detained by the CID, to meet his lawyers for advice.

The court made the order after considering a motion filed by his lawyer about not being allowed to meet the suspect in person.

Attorney Harshika Samaranayake, who appeared for Podi Lasi, told Court that although he had gone to the CID on December 3 to meet his client, SP Meryl Lamahewa had not allowed the lawyers to meet him in person.
