SC takes up LG poll petition today

The Supreme Court will take up today a Writ Petition filed by retired Colonel W. M. R. Wijesundera seeking a decision to stop holding the Local Government Elections  due to the economic situation in the country. The petition was earlier scheduled to be called on February 23.

But the postal poll related to the local government election was planned to begin on Tuesday 21, and the petitioner party filed a motion in the Supreme Court on February 13, requesting that the petition be called before that.

Accordingly, it has been decided to call the petition today.
