School holidays from December 22 to February 2 Vocational training courses for O/L, A/L students
Education Minister Dr.Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament yesterday that the school holidays for the third term for the government and government-approved schools will start on December 22 and last until February 2, 2024.
The Minister said that a number of vocational training courses will be started for the children facing the G.C.E O/L and A/L examinations and the National Institute of Education, the Vocational Training Authority and the Open University will start these courses together.
The Minister was replying to a question raised by MP Samanpriya Herath.
Accordingly, the first course will be started for 237,000 children appearing for the A-level examination this year and arrangements have been made to start those courses after December 15.
The Minister said that the application for this course will be called immediately after the conclusion of A/L examination and in addition to the English language and information technology, they can choose two technical subjects of their choice and study this course.
He said that the children can study this course for four months until they get their A-Level results, and after the children are selected for the universities, the rest of the children will be selected for the appropriate courses by conducting an examination.
The Minister said that this course will give the children the opportunity to study the most suitable profession and the low income children will also be given the opportunity to study these courses.
