Schools to have solar power from 2024

A project to install solar panels for schools is planned to start from next year.

Steps have been taken to start a pilot programme in the Minuwangoda Education Division.

This programme has been started according to the instructions of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, with the aim of providing relief to schools facing high electricity bills.

This will be implemented in schools all over the island from next year.

Under the pilot programme, schools with an electricity bill of more than Rs. 20,000 per month in the Minuwangoda Education Division will be chosen to install solar power.
