St. Joseph’s College and Royal College will meet at the schools under 20 Basketball tournament ‘A’ division boys final while Holy Family Convent will battle with Mahamaya College Kandy in the girls ‘A’ division final which is scheduled to be held today (19) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
The schools’ under 20 Basketball tournament finals was scheduled to be played last week but was postponed to this week due to players’ safety and adhering to the safety protocols.
The boys ‘A’ division final between St. Joseph’s and Royal is expected to be a keen tussle today at 3.50 pm while the top two teams of the under 20 ‘A’ division Holy Family Convent and Mahamaya Kandy (1.50 pm) also will dish out a good battle. In the boys under 20 ‘A’ division semifinals, Royal beat St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya while St. Joseph’s defeated D.S Senanayake College Colombo to enter the finals.
Earlier girls under 20 ‘A’ division first semi-final was played between Holy Family Convent (HFC) and St. Joseph’s Girls School (SJGS). The Familians downed their opposition comfortably, by a margin of 54 points, the final score line reading 85 – 31. The second semi final ended in favour of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, 45-41 after a nail-biting thriller against Good Shepherd Convent, Colombo.
Meanwhile, OKI International will meet Isipatana in the boys B’ division final and the girls B’ division final between Ladies College and Hillwood College Kandy is scheduled to be played today from 10 am onwards at the same venue.
The ‘C’ division boys final between St. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa and Dharmasoka Ambalangoda will be played from 8.30 a.m onwards today while Yasodaradevi BMV and Holy Family Convent Kurunegala will meet in the ‘C’ division girls final which will be the first match today, starting from 7 am onwards at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
