Science ‘Maroons’ produced a superb second half rally to beat Western Province 21-8 in the SLR Under-24 League Rugby Tournament final encounter played at the Police Park in Colombo yesterday.
Science ‘Maroons’ were trailing 7-8 at half time but came back strongly after the turnaround to score two superb tries and to turn the game in their favour.
The Western Province started off well as they dominated the initial stages and showed promise by scoring a try and putting over a penalty.
However, Science ‘Maroons’ settled down beautifully and came into their own in the second half to finish the game with three converted tries.
Meanwhile, North Western Province put up a determined performance to clinch the Plate Championship by defeating Old Wesleyites SC 22-13 in the final played at the Maliyadeva College Grounds in Kurunegala.
In addition, Southern Province had the consolation of winning the Bowl Championship as they trounced the Petersons SC 16-0 in the final played at the St. Aloysius’ College Grounds in Galle.
In addition, Dineth Pasindu of Science ‘Maroons’ was named as the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament, which was conducted by Sri Lanka Rugby and sponsored by Nippon Paint Lanka.
