Sea-Hawks continued their dominance remaining as the only undefeated team in the inaugural ‘Super League’ Football Tournament conducted by the Football Sri Lanka (FSL) after pulling off a spectacular 1-0 win over Up Country Lions in their match played last weekend at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

In a match that was closely contested until the solitary goal scored in the extra time until then it was the Up Country Lions who dominated proceedings, where the much-needed luck didn’t favour them eventually forcing them to suffer their second defeat of the tournament.

Nevertheless, full credit should go to the Sea-Hawks players who held their nerve until they gained their opportunity, which striker Dhanushka Madushanka was instrumental in breaking the shackles to sail them to victory and to remain on top of the points table at the end of the fourth consecutive week. Subsequently, they are also the only team not to concede any goal against them which is a unique feature of the tournament that has proved their strength in defence. Rifkhan Mohamed their indefatigable striker and play maker once again had a share in their victory scoring a goal which makes him the highest goal scorer of the tournament with five goals to his credit. The Japanese coach has played a pivotal role in transforming this unit into a champion team which earned them 12 points so far in the tournament.

Their rivals UP Country lads climbed to the third position after being slated in the fifth place before the commencement of this stage of the tournament.. Out of their four outings, they managed to post two wins but lost one and drew equal numbers of games. A team inculcated with the best players locally and overseas is capable of performing better than what they are and are one of the dark horses in the fray to clinch the title led by national skipper cum goalkeeper Sujan Perera.

Meanwhile, Red Star the team from Beruwela retained the second slot further after they drew 2-all against Colombo FC. After leading2-0 until the midway of the second half, due to some defensive lapses, they conceded goals where they managed to force a draw. This outcome made them notch up two wins while drawing an equal number of matches collecting eight points.

Blue Star after a scoreless draw against Ratnam pushed them to fourth place after remaining third at the end of the previous weeks matches. Colombo FC too dropped down to the fifth slot after their drawn game against Red Star. The other significant change in the Points table is the ascendancy of the team New Young after notching up their inaugural 2-1win over Blue Eagles which has placed them in the seventh position after reeling last in the position in the table.
