Second post-mortem examination to be conducted at Karapitiya Hospital
Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajinda Jayasuriya yesterday (22) ordered the Five-Specialist Medical Board chaired by Professor Asela Mendis, forensic specialist of the University of Colombo, to exhume the body of Dinesh Schaffter, the Director of Janashakthi Group, and to conduct the second post-mortem examination at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle.
As the Criminal Investigation Department has made the necessary arrangements to exhume the body on May 25, the Magistrate ordered the five-member expert panel to be present at the Borella Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. on May 25.
The Court also allowed the five-member Expert Medical Committee to conduct a second post-mortem examination of the exhumed body within two days after May 25 at the Karapitiya Hospital mortuary in Galle.
The facts and necessary expenses in this regard will be borne by the Ministry of Justice and the Criminal Investigation Department will bear the expenses of transporting the body to the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.
These orders were issued through a motion filed by the Criminal Investigation Department before the Court stating that necessary arrangements have been made to exhume the body.
The Magistrate decided to have the body exhumed and a post-mortem conducted after considering the request made by the five-member panel of medical experts chaired by Professor Asela Mendis, forensic specialist of the University of Colombo on May 18.
