Senior Deputy Solicitor General tells Court CCD will arrest all suspects in kidney racket

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General’s Department has yesterday informed the Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court that the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) will take necessary actions to arrest all the perpetrators involved with the alleged kidney racket.

Dileepa Peiris also said that another two suspects including a grama sevaka were arrested for the incident and they were produced before an identification parade and identified by the witnesses.

He added that the Grama Niladhari Officer from Maradana has issued a grama niladari report to a person whose name was not in the electoral list.

A group of lawyers appearing for the suspects pleaded their clients be released on bail under any bail condition. The Counsels also said that the owner of the private hospital reportedly in the racket has not been arrested yet.

President’s Counsel Faizer Mustapha appearing for the 8th suspect also said that the people who donated their kidneys should also be named as suspects in the case. The complaints were filed them because they were not paid the promised amount. The Magistrate ordered to release three suspects on bail on two sureties of Rs.1 million each. The Magistrate also ordered them to report to the CCD on the first and third Sunday of each month. Another four suspects who were arrested for the kidney racket linked to a private hospital in Rajagiriya were ordered to be remanded till February 28 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday. The Magistrate refused to grant bail to the four suspects.
