The Senkadagala Special School for children with special needs received a 200,000 Sterling pound upgrade recently.

The school established in 1963 in an old manor house (walauwwa) on Kuda Rathwaththa Road, Kandy, presently provides education to 86 children with disabilities (visually impaired or hearing impaired). Of the 86 scholars, 68 are hostellers while the others are day scholars.

A concert held by the students of Senkadagala Special School at a hotel in Kandy warmed the heart of a Sri Lankan born lady domiciled in England who was resident at the hotel. She visited the school before she left Kandy and was appalled by the hostel facilities.

On her return to England the lady who wished to remain anonymous with the consent of the principal Kumudini Abeyruwan and authorities provided 200,000 Sterling pounds from her savings to renovate and refurbish the hostel facilities at the establishment.
