Senumi the hockey star from Wennappuwa

Fifteen year old Hockey player Senumi Tharushika Subasinghe has brought honour and immense glory to Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa with her deeds in the field of hockey Playing in the Right forward position. she was a member of the 2023 National Sports Festival hockey Tournament in which they were the second runner up and in the same year she participated in the Inter Schools Under 19 tournament and won the second place and was a member of the 18th ESOFT Blue and Gold Hockey Sevens Tournament organized by Royal College Hockey Club in which they were the champions

Senumi Subasinghe

Senumi who hails from Lunuwila was born on 7th October 2008 and she was admitted to her present school in 2013 and when she came up to grade four she became the under 9 and under 10 school Athletic Champion and her events were 60 and 80 metres. Later she was in her house team for the under 16 relay teams and won places and also she took part in the marathons in her village and won places. Though she did athletics her parents Indika Subasinghe and Randima Avanthi realizing that her forte is Hockey handed over their daughter to the School Hockey teacher Mrs. Priyangani and the Coach former airman Milan Boteju and her first attempt was in the inter schools under 13 tournament held in Mihintale and she received a certificate for participation.

Her second attempt was in the All Island schools under 15 tournament held in Dambulla and could not come up to expectations and she had to keep away in 2020 and 2021 due to Coronavirus and she participated in the 47th Open National Festival Tournament and won the third place and in the Inter School tournament held in Matale they won the under 15 second place.

Their next tournament was 24th Women National Tournament and her school were the Runner up and they were the 2023 Provincial Champions and then at the recently held 18th ESOFT Royal Gold and Blue Sevens Tournament they were the champions by beating formidable Ladies College Colombo by 2 to nil and she scored the second goal.
