Senura and Bimandee excel at Asian Championship trials

Two promising Table Tennis players Senura Silva of Ananda College, Colombo and Bimandee Bandara of Hilwood College, Kandy gave fine performances at the first trial to pick the team that would compete at the Asian TT championship scheduled to be held from September 29 to October 9; in Doha, Qatar.

The trial was conducted by Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka was held at the S. Thomas Gymnasium Mt Lavinia while eight men’s paddlers and eight women’s paddlers were participated at the trial and one player had to compete with each other.

The 15 year old Senura was unbeaten winning all seven matches at the men’s section while 16 year old Bimandee won six matches out of seven losing to experienced Ishara Madurangi who won five matches out of seven.

Madurangi the former National champion from Sri Lanka Ports Authority lost only two matches against Ayla Chitty (Ladies College)and Thamisha Thushadi (Kegalu Balika) Meanwhile Chameera Ginige of Sri Jayawardenapura University won six matches out of seven lost to young Senura while Malinda Lakshita was able to win five matches out of seven losing to Senura and Chameera.

Imantha Udanjaya,Nimesh Ranchagoda, Nirmala Jayasinghe, Chanul Dulsen and Chandupa Alahakoon were the other men’s paddlers at this trial while Thanushi Rodrigo, Hansani Piyumila, Ayla Chitty, Jithara Warnakulasuriya, Chameesha Thushadi and Muthumali Priyadharshani are the other women’s players of this first trial.
