H D Premaratne’s 1988 film ‘Mangala Thagga’ has been given a new life as a sequel to the mystery movie had been made. This latest production comes in the form of a mobile teledrama directed by seasoned actor and film director Sanath Gunatileke.
The teledrama unfolds through the ViU mobile app via Dialog ViU and is brought forth by Dialog Axiata. Titled ‘Mangala Thagga Deveni Gamana’ the teledrama sees old campaigners of its predecessor in action. Siril Wickramage, Ravindra Randeniya, Jayalath Manoratne, Mwnike Attanayake and Ramani Siriwardena star in this production along with a set of new faces. Cletus Mendis, Nimal Antony, Alexander Fernando, Wilson Karu and Jayalal Rohana too have performed significant roles in ‘Mangala Thagga Deveni Gamana’.
A special function was held at Dialog Axiata PLC to launch the teledrama. Artistes connected with the project along with many renowned faces in the entertainment scene graced the event.
“‘Mangala Thagga Deveni Gamana’ is an effort to take Sri Lankan teledramas to new heights. Though the first chapter of this story came as a film the sequel is in the form of a teledrama. It revives the memories of the old hit,” Gunatileke expressed.
He notes that the modern film and teledrama enthusiasts are eager to watch productions on their smartphones or tabs while they are on the go. The age in which they have to flock to a certain location and wait for a certain hour to watch a movie or teledrama is slowly fading away. Pictures by Shan Rambukwella
