Sergeant interdicted for stamping foot at ASP

A Police Sergeant was interdicted due to involving in a argument with the Pulmoddai Assistant Superintendent(ASP) Chandana Basnayake during the monthly inspection held at the Nilaveli Police Station.

It is stated that during the monthly inspection for May, officers who are suffering from disabilities and illnesses were kept in a separate queue when the inspection was conducted. The suspended officer was in the queue where sick officers were lined up. ASP Chandana Basnayake stated that the officer has not received permission to wait in that queue and had noted that his shoes and belt were also not polished.

When the Assistant Superintendent tried to question the Sergeant’s behaviour, the suspended officer yelled at him saying “Is this a mistake to yell about? Only we know the problems we have, do whatever you want, suspend me. I’m not afraid.” Later, the Trincomalee SSP has interdicted the Sergeant on a complaint made by the Assistant Superintendent regarding his behaviour.
