Sergeant under probe for defrauding reward money

Kankesanthurai’s special crime investigation unit has begun an investigation into a fraud of a police sergeant.

According to the police sources a reward money of a police officer, who investigated two complaints received by the Thelippalai police regarding house breaking and property theft and took steps to arrest the suspects has been taken by the police sergeant. Police Sergeant Samarakoon (5143) currently attached to Kankesanthurai Superintendent’s office is said to have defrauded the payment due to officer of the Thelippalai Police Station. A senior police officer in Jaffna said that this investigation was initiated according to a complaint made by Sergeant Samarakoon yesterday (9) that the officer had taken the prize money he was entitled to.
