Chairperson of the United Lakvanitha Peramuna (ULP) Shanthini Kongahage yesterday said that the leader of the United National Party, founded by former Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake, is running in this year’s presidential election as an independent candidate.

Most women in this country understand the importance of supporting a candidate who is above party politics. Ranil Wickremesinghe guided women through one of the darkest periods in our history. Women are rallying around to vote for President Ranil Wickremesinghe, recognizing him as the only non-partisan candidate who has offered hope to both our children and women”, she said.

Other parties are defined by their colours and affiliations, but should we continue to let these divisions separate us? She queried. She added that all must set aside these differences and cast our votes for President Ranil Wickremesinghe, as we cannot allow our country to follow the path of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh, once a source of support for us, now regrets the situation it finds itself in. The upcoming presidential election is crucial, it will determine our future. President Ranil Wickremesinghe has empowered the women of this country, allowing them to stand tall. Now, we must all unite to ensure the victory of this non-partisan candidate.
