The Indian Coast Guard arrested seven Sri Lankan fishermen for poaching in Indian waters off the Kanyakumari coast on Saturday.
A mechanised fishing boat was also seized.
Sources said that the Sri Lankan boat was intercepted by ICG’s Vaibhav, which was patrolling the area. The fishermen were found engaging in fishing activities within the Indian maritime boundary, leading to their immediate arrest.
The detained fishermen and their vessel will be handed over to Tharuvaikulam marine police on Sunday morning for further proceedings. (TOI)
