Ten year old Gold Medalist in Roller Skating, Swimmer and Chess Player Shaheen Shainu Weligalle has brought honour and immense glory to his Alma Mater Sumedha College Gampaha with his deeds in the field of sports. Shaheen who hails from Kandana was born on 14 th November 2012 and admitted to Sumedha College in 2018 when Mrs. L. A. C. S. Wijetunga was at the helm of the school and his first class teacher was Mrs. Dilini and at the age of 7 he commenced swimming under Mr. Pradeep and in 2019 he participated for the inter house swimming meet of his school and came second in Free Style under 7 age group in 25 metre event and he participated for the Chess tournaments of the school too. In the meantime he showed an interest in Roller Skating and his parents Sriyantha Weligalle and Madushani Walakuluge handed over their son to the school coach Prabath Sanjeewa Kapuruge in 2019 and he was admitted to Fynergy Sports Club Gampaha to enhance in Roller Skating also. His first attempt was Sri Lanka Roller Skating National Championship held at Kelaniya and in the 4×100 meter team event
his school team won a Silver Medal and in the same meet participating at the under 8 age category in 100 metres he won a Bronze Medal and in the 200 metre event he grabbed another Bronze and in 300 metre event he won his first Gold Medal and in the 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1000 metre events he won Bronzes.
Then in the Fynergy Roller Skating Championship in 2020 he won a Gold for 100, Silver for 200, Bronze for 300, Silver for 400 and Bronze for 500 metre events and in the Sri Lanka Roller Skating Association Junior Nationals at the under 10 age group held in Torrington Colombo he won a Bronze for 400 meter event.
In 2022 Sri Lanka Schools Roller Skating Championship held recently at Thambuththegamuwa, Anuradhapura at the under 11 category he won Bronzes for 300 and 600, Gold for 700 and Silver for 800 meter events and during a span of four years he has won 20 Medals which includes three Golds, four Silvers and 13 Bronzes and his Principal Samantha Perera is always supportive for his Roller Skating.
