Shanakiyan meets US Embassy political officer to discuss key issues in North and East

Batticaloa District Member of Parliament Shanakiyan Rasamanickam met with US Embassy Political Officer Rachel Hawkins in Batticaloa today (30) to discuss key issues affecting the North and East.

During the meeting, discussions focused on land issues facing the Tamil people, missing persons, political solutions, power-sharing, political representation and livelihood challenges.

Rasamanickam highlighted the need for infrastructure development in the Eastern Province, emphasizing that upgrading highways and local roads would significantly boost the region’s tourism sector. Discussions also covered strengthening harmony, equality and equal opportunities among Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala communities, as well as current political developments, constitutional reforms, and Provincial Council elections.
