Shashikala heads Schools Hockey Association

Shashikala Senadhira the Principal of Mahamanya Balika Vidyalaya Kandy and Anuruddha Herath Bandara of Vijaya College Matale were elected President and Secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association at their AGM held last Friday.

The newly elected school hockey officials are planning to promote this game among the schools while they also expect to work closely with the National Hockey Federation headed by SSP Kamal Pushpakumra. The newly elected Secretary Anuruddha Herath who is also a former International player and experienced National coach said the elected officials are committed to work together to uplift this sport among the schools which is the platform to build up National players.

Apart from the Secretary Anuruddha Herath three more officials Palitha Wasalage (Treasurer), Indrawansa Herath(Vice President ) and Thilina Gunawardena (Assistant Treasurer) are also former International players.Indika Jayawardena (Chairman Umpires Committee), Duminda Perera(Chairman Tournament Committee) and Thusitha Wickramaratne (Chairman coaches Committee) are the former junior International players.

Most of the schools from Kandy, Matale, Colombo have already involved in this sport while new administrative committee have a big responsibility to promote this sport in other areas as well while giving more opportunity for the school players to take part in domestic tournaments. The Principal of Seethadevi Balika Vidyalaya Kandy was elected new deputy President.
