Shiranthi received FCID notice only at airport boarding gate, family member says

A member of the Rajapaksa family has denied reports that former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka despite having previously been summoned by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).

The family member said Rajapaksa had not received any summons from the FCID before arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport.

According to the family member, Rajapaksa travelled directly to the airport from a private hospital ahead of her scheduled departure.

“Her flight was scheduled to leave at 12:50 a.m. An airport official suddenly handed her the letter near the boarding gate. There had been no previous summons from the FCID asking her to appear and provide a statement,” the family member said.

The family member said the notice was therefore received only after Rajapaksa had arrived at the airport and was preparing to leave Sri Lanka.
