Showers forecast, flood warnings issued
The showery condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to further enhance from today (03), the Meteorology Department said. Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North Western Provinces and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere, particularly in the Eastern and Uva Provinces during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre said over 3,500 people from several parts of the country have been affected due to inclement weather. The Department of Irrigation has further extended the flood warnings issued for the Nilwala Ganaga, Attanagalu Oya and Gin Ganga. Residents in these areas are requested to pay heed to this announcement. The water level of the Kelani River too has risen further and certain areas in the low-lying areas around Avissawella are experiencing minor floods.
In southern areas as well several areas have experienced minor flooding.
