Sineth’s ton puts Royal in command

Opener Sineth Jayawardana scored a superb knock of 106 in 127 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes as Royal College declared on 286/7 in their under 19 Inter-School cricket fixture against St. Benedict’s, Kotahena, played at Reid Avenue yesterday. Sadisha Rajapaksa the National youth all-rounder also hit 72 in 912 balls striking 4 fours while Vinusha Akash made an unbeaten 30 in 23 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes to improve Royal’s innings.

Bens off-spinner Ashen de Soyza was the most successful bowler taking 5 for 55 in his 16-over spell.

The third session of the first day was washed out due to rain and the game was stopped with 24 overs spare for the day. The match will be continued today.

Meanwhile, at Ananda Mawatha, three half-centuries hit by Hiran Jayasundara (61), Muditha Lakshan (59), and Hirun Kapurubandara (64 n.o.) helped St. Joseph’s to finish on 251-7 against Ananda College on day one. At one stage, Josephians were struggling at 136/6 while the seventh wicket pair Muditha Lakshan, who scored 59 with 10 fours, and Hirun Kapurubandara with 64 (11 fours) added a fighting 106-run stand to build up their total.

Nalanda College took major honors in their game against Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya which ended in a draw at Pannipitiya. Nalandians made 318 for 7 wickets declared while Dharmapalians were bowled out for 204 in their first innings. Rain halted the game as Dharmapala were 6 runs for no loss in their second innings.
