Sithuni, a hockey star in the making
Fifteen year old third year Hockey player Sithuni Himanthi Peiris of Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa has brought honor and glory for her school with a deeds in the field of Hockey, playing in the Right Half position, Member of the under 14 school tournament.
She is also a member of the under 16 Provincial Tournament Champion team, member of the Sri Lanka Schools under 16 Tournament team in 2022, member of the under 20 Sri Lanka National Schools tournament team, member of the Ministry of Sports National Festival Open Tournament team, member of the National Festival Tournament team 2022, member of
the champion under 19 National Tournament team, member of the Sri Lanka Schools under 19 Tournament team and finally member of the Royal Sevens winning team.
Sithuni who hails from Dummaladeniya Wennappuwa was bom on 7th December 2008 and admitted to her present school in 2013 and from grade one to five she did not take any interest in sports and her Parents Thushara Peiris and Sujika Kumudini Perera realizing that her forte is Hockey handed over their daughter to the Mistress in Charge of Hockey Mrs.Priyangani and School Coach former Airman Milan Boteju.
Her first attempt was All Island Schools under 14 tournament held in Mihintale and their school team could not reach the expectations and in the under 16 Provincial Tournament they were the champions and in 2020 she has to keep away in sports due to Corona Virus and in 2022 they participated for the under 16 schools tournament and in 2022 again playing for the under 20 team at the Sri Lanka Nationals they were the Runner up and in 2022 Sri Lanka Schools Tournament they were the second runner up and at the Ministry of Sports National Festival Open Tournament held in Wennappuwa they were the champions. Then in the Sri Lanka Nationals held in Colombo they won the third place and in the 2022 All Island National Schools Tournament they were the champions and in the under 19 Sri Lanka Schools Tournament they came second and finally in 2023 at the 18th ESOFT Blue and Gold Hockey Sevens tournament organized by Royal College Hockey Club they were the champions for the first time. Sithuni playing in the Half position played a Vital Role for Wennappuwa lasses to clinch the coveted title and her Principal Rev. Sister Payoe is very supportive.
