Situation at Matara Prison back to normal

The situation at the Matara Prison, in which several inmates were hospitalized after falling ill with a fever, has now returned to normal, Dr.Upali Karunaratne, Director of Matara General Hospital said.

Dr.Upali Karunaratne said 17 inmates were admitted to the hospital and one inmate had died due to suspected brain fever.

Dr. Karunaratne further said that three inmates were still receiving treatment at the ICU, but they were out of danger.

He also said after 23rd no inmates were reported ill due to the fever.
