Six held for bogus land deals

Six persons, including two women, who were defrauding money by pretending to be officials of the Land Reform Commission, were arrested by Rideegama Police.

The suspects who have obtained money promising land were remanded until January 1, after being produced before the Rambadagalla Magistrate’s Court.

According to the police, the two women, aged 30 and 33, reside in Potuhera and Dodangaslanda.

The other four suspects are residents of Ibbagamuwa, Mahawela and Kurunegala and aged 65, 48 and 27 years respectively.

Police said that three suspects were wearing t-shirts with the name Land Reforms Commission. Even the van they travelled in had a sticker saying Land Reform Commission.

Police said that these suspects cheated each person of Rs. 100,000. A senior Police officer said that the Police have received one complaint in this regard.

Police said that these fraudsters had come to the temple and collected money stating that they would give land in return.
