Six who robbed Rs.5 mn from Kirulapone house arrested

Six suspects were arrested in connection to a theft of Rs.5 million in cash and jewellery worth Rs. 2 million  from a house in Balapokuna Road, Kirulapone, Colombo South Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Police said. The Police have found the jeep used for the burglary, along some stolen cash (Rs.780,000) and some stolen jewellery worth Rs.1.4 million. Those were taken into the Police custody.

The burglary had occurred on February 27. The suspects had entered the house by removing the grill fixed to a window, and had stolen money and jewellery in the wardrobe. The couple, who were in the house, had been in deep sleep after a tiring pilgrimage.

The couple had lodged a police complaint in the morning, next day. Police investigated with the help of security cameras in the vicinity. Police traced the main suspect in Moratumulla and arrested another five suspects from information received through interrogating him.

The suspects were to be produced before the Court yesterday. The main suspect had previously been in prison for three years for robberies in three locations in Moratumulla. Two other suspects are addicted to the ICE narcotic.
