Siyambalapitiya ready for debate on removal of SCL

State Finance Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told Parliament yesterday that the government has already taken steps to remove the Special Commodity Levy (SCL) and if any party has problems in this regard, he is ready for debate.

Although many people have been expressing various opinions about the sugar tax fraud, no practical solutions have been presented so far by the parties who accuse and criticize it, and if there are any such practical solutions, they should be presented. The State Minister further said that if the importer does not make the relevant deductions in connection with the reduction of levy, the importer will be able to earn unlimited profits when he gets rid of it.

The State Minister also said if the duty is immediately increased, it will increase the normal value of the stocks of goods in the country and if the government cannot control it, the trader will get excessive profit.
