Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Political Bureau Member K.D. Lal Kantha said senior officials of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have a significant number who were involved in theft, fraud and corruption during the previous government.
He said the people do not accept their statements while keeping them on a platform and declaring that they will establish a government free of fraud and corruption. “If these accused are expelled from the party, only a handful will remain in the higher ranks of the SJB”, he said.
Lal Kantha was speaking to the media in Kandy on Wednesday (16). He said that the people should check carefully who is on the SJB stage. If an administration sans fraud, corruption and theft is to be established the leadership will first have to clean out the Party.
“A significant number of ministers and district leaders who are accused of looting public property are in that group. There are a few who do not have such allegations against them. They do not have any position in that campaign. Is it credible if someone claims to keep those involved in fraud and corruption on stage and state that they will create a regime that is not?”
If the leader is a proper person, prior to setting up a government, he should clean out the Party. Lal Kantha said that the fuel crisis is only one that points out the depth of the prevailing crisis. At one time it is the power crisis, at another time it is the gas crisis, on another occasion it is the cement crisis. The government is begging from foreign countries to escape the dollar crisis. This is a situation that has arisen as a result of the plundering programme carried out by the rulers who came after 1978.
“There are a number of reasons for this, including the withdrawal of the government from economic affairs and the selfishness of the rulers in pursuing personal interests. We should not analyse the power crisis, the fuel crisis on our own. Solutions cannot be found through these existing rulers. Highlighting individual cases just for that time alone will not solve the problem.
As the Jathika Jana Balavegaya, a platform has been built where a large number of people can come together. We are the only political movement with a programme that goes beyond criticism. The people are looking for a new answer to the problems of this country. The SJB is similar to putting in old wine into another bottle and bringing it back. That only serves to deceive the people.
