SJB urges media not to publish fake news

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday rejected some fabricated statements pubilished by certain newspapers. He said that not a single SJB member will join the Government for ministerial portfolios.

The Opposition Leader blamed certain newspapers for publishing this nature of false statements to mislead the public.

He said that not a single SJB parliamentarian is willing to join the Government to get portfolios rather than helping the Government’s economic development activities for the sake of down-trodden people in the country.

The Opposition Leader urged such newspapers that are closely working according to the agendas of certain Government parliamentarians to refrain from publishing fabricated news to mislead readers.

He also said that educated people in the country will not believe this nature of unbelievable statements as everybody knows that the benefit of Government’s on-going works reap by only a few people and not the majority of the poor.

He said that the media’s role is to publish true news since fabricated news would tarnish the image of such newspapers.

He said that at this juncture the people need to change the system since the country’s economic situation is deteriorating due to unbearable price hike of essential commodity items and it has affected down-trodden people in the country.

He said that even the UNICEF reports say that over six million under -aged children in the country are suffering from malnutrition due to not getting nutritious food owing to the high prices of food items and urged the media to highlight this news rather than publishing fabricated news.
