United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara said only seven members of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) will be left and all others will join the UNP.

He said that less than two years after the formation of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya, questions have been raised regarding the candidate who will be contesting the Presidential election and at present seven members of the group are dreaming of becoming the Presidential candidate.

He was speaking at a function held at the E.L.Senanayake Children’s Library auditorium in Kandy after the renovation and opening of the UNP Kandy District Office as the Central Provincial Office.

He said that the SJB kept saying that after the last General Election, Sirikotha would be captured and the green colour and the elephant would be claimed by them and grabbed the votes and that by now it has been understood who the UNP members who voted for them are.

He also mentioned that today, the problems of the shortage of rice, sugar, fuel, gas, fertilizer, cement and milk powder is becoming worse daily and that the government is in a situation where they are unable to find dollars to import the fuel required for the country. The UNP General Secretary said that if solutions are to be found for all of these problems everyone should join together and implement a national procedure.

He said further that UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe keeps making this point continuously, based on his long political experience and that those who are dreaming of becoming President and sewing themselves suits do not possess this vision.

Range Bandara said that some people were making false allegations that UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was engaging in deal politics with the Rajapaksa’s during the tenure of the previous government and that he would remind those who make absurd allegations that the Rajapaksa’s and 344 people who were with them were charged.

He also said that two Courts were set up with three judges each in order to hear these cases soon and complete them and if Ranil Wickremesinghe was engaging in deal politics he would not have been able to do such things. Bandara said that the biggest blow for the UNP is that an attempt is being made by those who do not work for the UNP to cut those who do work together for the Party and that it should not happen in the party anymore. Former MPs Sagala Ratnayake, K. K. Piyadasa and Kandy District Leader Shanthini Kongahage participated on this occasion.
