Skipper Duvindu steers Lyceum, Nugegoda to victory

Skipper Duvindu Silva took a hat-trick as Lyceum, Nugegoda edged out Lyceum, Panadura by two wickets in the Inter-International Schools Under-19 Cricket Tournament final played at Wattala.

Lyceum, Panadura put into bat were restricted to a modest 135 runs in 24.4 overs and Lyceum, Nugegoda went on to overtake that score with two wickets and 10 deliveries to spare.

Right-arm spinner Duvindu, who captured two wickets in the last two balls of the semi-final encounter against Lyceum, Wattala on the previous day, struck in his very first ball of the innings to complete the first-ever hat-trick in this tournament.

He went on to add three more wickets to his tally to finish with excellent figures of four for 22 and ended up as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.

In addition, opening bowler Sethika Balasuriya finished with the identical figures of four for 22.

Lyceum, Nugegoda during their run chase, lost few early wickets but some useful contributions from the late order batsmen Zaheer Shifan (36), Aritha Vinnal (27) and Thevindu Bandara (23) helped them to reach the target.
