SL athletes to vie for honours at World Junior Meet

Sri Lanka’s promising sprinter Medhani Jayamanne and Isuru Abeywardena will compete in their respective heats on the opening day of the World Junior Athletic Championships, which begins in Nairobi, Kenya today.

Jayamanne will compete in the Women’s 100m while Abeywardena will compete in the Men’s 400m first-round heats with the semi-finals scheduled on the same day.

In addition, the Sri Lanka 4x400m mixed relay team will also make their first appearance in the first-round heats today. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s COVID Liaison Officer Dr Dhammika Senanayake said that all team members are in good health and are confident of putting up a good performance after having successfully completed their medical reports.

The Sri Lanka Team:

(Men): Isuru Abeywardena (400m and 4x400m), U. B. M. R. D. Bandara (4x400m), H. H. R. S. Jayasundara (4x400m).

(Women): Shanika Lakshani (800m), Tharushi Karunaratne (800m and 4x400m), Medhani Jayamanne (100m and 200m), Sayuri Mendis (4x400m).
