Sri Lankan Ambassador designate Kapila Jayaweera was invited to participate in the Medal Awarding Ceremony at the UNIFIL Headquarters, Naqoura, South of Lebanon, on September 6. The Fourteenth Sri Lankan Force Protection Unit was awarded medals.
During the Military Parade, Major General Aroldo Lazaro Saenz, Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL who graced the occasion as chief guest, awarded UN Peace-Keeping medals to the Sri Lankan contingent that consists of 125 Army personnel.
In his speech, Major General Saenz commended the professionalism and the commitment of the Sri Lanka contingent.
The Sri Lanka Army was represented by Major General W.A.S.S. Wanasinghe, Major General W.W.W.M.C.B. Wickramasinghe and Colonel P.P.C. Perera.
The event was followed by a reception hosted by the Sri Lanka Contingent of UNIFIL.
