SL Delegation Studies Indonesian Social Security System on Special Four-Day Visit
A high-level delegation from Sri Lanka, led by RPA. Wimalaweera, Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment, is currently in Indonesia for an in-depth four-day study of the country’s social security system.
The delegation specializes in understanding Indonesia’s Unemployment Insurance through its social protection arm, BPJS. Ketenagakerjaan.
This initiative is taken as per the directives of Manusha Nanayakakra, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment in Sri Lanka.
The visit is organized with the assistance of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with ILO Indonesia, and is generously supported by the Japanese government. The Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment in Sri Lanka is embarking on transformative labour reforms and progressive initiatives, focusing on critical areas like unemployment insurance, maternity benefits, workplace injuries, and health.
Wimalaweera and the delegation had the opportunity to meet briefly with Anggoro Eko Cahyo, President and Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. The meeting was particularly opportune as today also marks the customer day of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. On this day, directors actively engage in customer service, attending to members and beneficiaries at various service stations.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, formerly BPJS Jamsostek, is a public legal entity transformed into a Social Security Agency responsible for a comprehensive suite of social security programmes. These programmes include Employment Injury security, Death security, Old Age Security, Unemployment security, and Pension security.
The Sri Lankan delegation includes:
-Officials from the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment.
-The Commissioner General of Labour.
-Members of certain trade unions.
-The Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC).
This collaborative visit aims to strengthen the bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, fostering a sharing of knowledge and best practices in labour and social security.
