SL emerge runner-up at 8th SABA tourney

Sri Lanka emerged as runner-up at the 8th South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Championship 2021 organised by the South Asia Basketball Association (SABA) and worked off from November 15 to 19 in Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Indian basketball men’s team lifted the SABA Championship 2021 for the sixth time, while hosts Bangladesh became third place.

Defending Sri Lanka cagers came in second with two wins against Bangladesh (67-56), Maldives (77-45) and a loss with India by 114 to 48. India were at the top of the four-nation tournament with three wins in three matches. India defeated Maldives by 57 points (88-31) in their opening match of the SABA Basketball championship. India (rank 78) played against Maldives (rank 142), Sri Lanka (rank 132) and Bangladesh (rank 146) in this tournament. India won the inaugural edition of the competition in 2002, followed by each of the five editions they have participated in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now the 2021 edition. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have won the rest of titles in 2013 and 2018 respectively.
